Steel Packaging & Shipping: Protecting Your Cargo for Ocean Transit

Steel goods travel long distances by sea, and the way they are packaged directly affects how they arrive. Proper export packaging prevents rust, scratches and damage.

Protection against rust — stainless sheets are often wrapped with anti-rust paper and vapour-phase inhibitor paper before packing. This matters especially for long voyages through humid climates.

Secure bundling — tubes and bars are bundled with steel strapping and sometimes shrink film, so the load stays stable during loading, stacking and transit.

Wooden pallets and crates — sheets, tubes and bars are secured on sturdy wooden pallets or in crates. Note that wooden packaging must be ISPM-15 heat-treated for international shipping.

Container loading — goods are loaded and lashed according to plan so weight is balanced and the cargo does not shift.

Buyer tip: confirm the packaging method and port of loading with your supplier in advance. Clear packing requirements reduce damage claims and keep your supply chain moving.
